Valentine’s Day the Chilean Way

February 14, 2011

I have never really thought about what other countries do for Valentine’s Day but apparently they celebrate it here in Chile.  First thing this morning, we had breakfast in our hostel and people wished us congratulations for St. Valentine’s Day.  Then as we walked around town we noticed that every restaurant had a special valentine’s menu.

And a lot of the stores had paper hearts and cupids taped inside the windows.

There were also several people selling flowers on the street…some real and some fake!

We just got back from walking around town and everyone has put out more decorations.  Mostly red and white balloons and more paper hearts!  Unfortunately I did not have my camera so I couldn’t get pictures.

I’ve been wanting some helado ever since we got to Pucon and we finally got some today!  It did not disappoint.

Our typical Valentine’s Day in the past has included pizza (preferably from Ledo’s or Campisi’s), wine and a movie.  We stuck to the tradition tonight with a $3 bottle of wine from the grocery store, pizza from the hostel downstairs and are about to watch an episode of Modern Family on the laptop.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Jen
